Febr 13th-19th, 1999

Sat., Feb. 13th, Met Giancarlo Schiaffini and Riccardo Santoboni
Group visited Foro Romano, Coliseum and Santa Maria Maggiore Church.

I visited Via Appia Antiqua.
Had a nice dinner near Hotel Galli.

Sun., Feb. 14th, Picked up our car rental (from Europe by Car, tel. 212-581-3040), class D. Daewoo model.

Drove to Sulmona for Lunch (great lunch !!!), and continued on the A16, Adriatica to Trani.
Met Luigi Morleo, Teresa and Giuseppe Monopoli in Trani, and went to Hotel Riviera (excellent and inexpensive (prices remain the same during the summer !!!).

Had a memorable pizza dinner at Pizzeria Bovio (A+).

Mon., Feb. 15th met the class at the Museo Epicopale: Luigi Morleo, Giuseppe Monopoli, Mike Deall, Paul Lee, Jong Suh Lee (Giuseppe 2 ...), and Donato Fumarola.

I had a nice lunch at Giuseppe Monopoli and his wife Pasqua.

Tue., Feb. 16th, we had a free morning in order to go to the MERCATO APERTO (open market). It is a huge one, with very fine and cheap stuff ...... Met Giuseppe and went to the Museum and Cultural Center in Barletta (Swabian fortress of the 12th Century).

Fine lunch at the Cristal Restaurante on the sea shore (grade A).

In the evening, we were invited by Giuseppe's father in Barletta to an exceptional dinner (A+), with lots of LIMONCELLO.

Wed., Feb. 17th, we had the first rehearsal at the Bari Conservatory. We had lunch at our last year's place, Hotel dei Rossi (A-), and returned to Trani.

In the afternoon we went to revisit with all Barletta Center, and its incredible room of reveerb.

The evening wew had dinner at the pizzeria near the hotel.

I had offered an extended, late night composition consultation with all my students. Mike worked late in the night, while Paul finished his piece at 6.00 am.

Thu., Feb. 18th we had rehearsal in Trani, and went to the best lunch of our trip near by (A++).

The group went out to have dinner, while I went out with Luigi and Teresa. Visited their home, did limited shopping, and had dinner at the near the hotel pizzeria. Had great stories of our lives.

Fri., Feb. 19th, we moved out of the hotel and went to Bari Conservatory. Had a very substantial rehearsal in the great hall.

Presented an excellent concert there (see program). Immediately after the concert went on the road, returned for lunch at Crital Restaurant, and sped away to Rome, through Naples (no stop there). Returned the car, and went very late to Rome's hotel Galli.

Sat., Feb. 20, went to the airport and flew back home.

A memorable trip. Paul, Jong Suh and Mike were super companions and very successful composer.
